For a marriage certificate that’s valid across Europe, you’ll need to complete some formalities. Depending on the country, documents must be translated into the local language, notarized, and submitted to the appropriate embassy or consulate 1-3 months prior to your wedding. You’ll need a certificate of marital status from the civil registry office, birth certificates issued after 1991 (older ones may need updating), and a passport that’s valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
